Class Notes

Intermediate class performance piece (Winter/Spring 2011)

The Intermediate class' song is a Persian Jewish track called "Vashti", sung by Galeet Dardashti. Caitlyn has emailed Dardashti to ask for a translation, but for now we'll have to be content with the knowledge that it's a feminist take on the story of Queen Vashti.

Ideas for the choreographed section so far included hips lift turns with a twist; spins; grapevine. Ideas for the chorus during the solos included shimmy slides; corkscrews; hip 8s; camels, ummis; chest circles; open arms and uplifted palms.

Improvers class choreography (Autumn 2010)

The improvers class choreography for the Autumn term 2010 uses the song "Mistaneek" by Natacha Atlas. This track is from the "Absolute Oriental" CD set and is 3:20 long. It is not the longer version on her CD "Gedida". Here is a link to a translation.

This choreography uses veils, so remember to bring your veil to class if you have one!

Here are some choreography notes edited by Sabira, with more detailed timing information and some corrections.
